Why offer Modular A-Levels? |
Quite simply, we try to build upon the success at GCSE. The modular GCSE Science course has proved a considerable success in the improvement of standards. The students appear to perform better when confronted with smaller sections, modules, of the course. The aims and assessment objectives are manageable, and students can see a goal in the near future to aim for, rather than a distant light at the end of a long tunnel. It would appear logical to continue at A-level with a similar structure course, in which all students can gain tangible rewards for their efforts as they proceed during the marathon two years.
The practical structure is also consistent with the type of development of skills associated with Modular GCSE courses. The practical unit also allows them to build upon process skills and gain credit for their efforts during the course. |
